Հանրահայտ «Մարականա» մարզադաշտում տեղի ունեցավ 31-րդ ամառային Օլիմպիական խաղերի փակման հանդիսավոր արորղությունը: Հայաստանի դրոշակակիրն Օլիմպիական չեմպիոն Արթուր Ալեքսանյանն էր, ով 20 տարվա դադարից հետո Հայաստանի ոսկե մեդալ է պարգևել Օլիմպիական խաղերում:
